Australia PR Points Calculator for Skilled Migration 2024

The Skilled Migration program for Australia follows a point-based system known as SkillSelect or Australia PR Points Calculator. The system is designed to attract highly-qualified professionals who want to live and work in Australia. The system is created in such a way that it considers only those applicants who have the right skills and experience to best meet the labor shortage needs of the country. There are different types of streams available under the skilled migration visas that require applicants to score minimum Australia PR Points in order to qualify for the Australia PR Visa.

The points distributed under the Australia Immigration Points Calculator system are linked with an applicant’s ability to make economic contributions to Australia. The system considers various factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability factors, before awarding scores to a profile. For skilled visas, it’s important for a candidate to at least score 65 points to maximize their maximum chances of receiving an ITA.

Below are the visa categories for which Australia PR points calculator is extensively used:

Subclass 189 visa

The Skilled independent visa subclass 189 is a permanent visa for anyone with in-demand talents in the country’s flourishing labor sector. Candidates are granted permits using a Points Based System (not sponsored). It allows holders to come to Australia if they have good English language skills, work experience, and qualifications in a vocation in high demand in the famed immigration hotspot. The permit uses a points system to select visa applicants who are in high demand in Australia’s national labor market.

To put it another way, the skilled independent subclass 189 is essentially a points-based permanent permit/visa, despite the fact that it is intended for trained/qualified experts from abroad and tradespeople who do not have sponsorship from an Australian recruiter/firm, a territory or state, or a family member. The bearer of the (Sub-class 189 visa Australia) Immigration Permit has the right to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis anywhere in the country. Significantly, candidates for the visa might include some of their family members in their visa petitions.

Subclass 190 visa

The Skilled Nominated Visa Subclass 190, also known as Skilled Immigration to Australia, is a points-based Permanent Residence Permit intended primarily for skilled experts and tradespeople with nominations from an Australian territory or state. Visa holders are allowed to live and work anywhere in the sponsoring state/territory. Applicants may also reveal the names of some of their family members in their visa applications.

Subclass 491 visa

The Skilled Regional visa (subclass 489), one of the key Australia Permanent Residency paths, has been superseded by the newly established Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa. The Australian Department of Home Affairs established this visa category, which becomes effective on November 16, 2019.

This is a point-based visa designed specifically for talented people who want to live and work in a regional area of Australia. You are also sponsored by an Australian State or Territory Government or an eligible family member residing in a designated regional area of Australia with this visa.

With this visa, you can stay in Australia for up to five years. Australia’s designated area is any section of the country other than Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Perth, and Melbourne. Newcastle, Wollongong, and the NSW Central Coast are designated regional zones, as is the Subclass 489 Skilled Regional visa.

Partner Skills (Maximum 10 points)

In certain circumstances, your spouse can help you earn points.

  • You get 10 points if you are single (no spouse or de facto partner).
  • You gain 10 points if your partner is an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • If your spouse is under 45 years old, has a ‘competent’ score on the English proficiency test, is in the same occupational code and visa subclass as you, and has a positive appraisal of your skills, you will gain 10 PR points.
  • You earn 5 points if your partner is fluent in English but does not have the same talents as you or does not belong to the same visa subclass as you.
  • Australian Specialist Education (5 points)

With at least two academic years in a relevant field, a Master’s by research or Doctorate from an Australian educational institution will get you 5 points.

Study in Regional or Metropolitan Area (5 points)

If you want to study in regional Australia or a low-population location, you will be awarded 5 points, most likely in an attempt by the Australian government to encourage people to settle in regional areas.

Other factors that can get you extra points include:

  • If you know a community language, you will receive 5 Australian PR Points.
  • You get 5 points if you completed a professional year in Australia in your specified skilled occupation for at least 12 months before receiving your invitation to apply.
  • You get 5 points if you have a State Nomination (190 visa).
